The best calls from one's agent...

Posted by Rachel Vincent

...start with the words, "Are you sitting down?"

Seriously. Last night Miriam called to tell me that in a couple of weeks, when the current New York Times bestseller list is released, Rogue will be on the extended portion, at #32!

I have no idea what to say. Words, which I've always considered close friends before, have suddenly abandoned me to the mercy of inarticulate squealing. And more than a little jumping around.

Except for these two little ones: THANK YOU!

This amazing news is due entirely to the enthusiasm of all the wonderful readers out there who went out and bought Rogue on its release week, and I can't thank you all enough. Thanks for buying the book, and thanks for writing to tell me you liked it. And thanks most of all to everyone who liked Rogue enough to spread the word, or to actually pass the book to a reader friend.

I can't seem to properly express my excitement, and how grateful I am to all the readers. My awesome agent, however, always seems to know exactly what to say, and just how to say it. This just arrived at my front door. (I know, the date's wrong. ;-) )

I believe that's 32 roses! Isn't she amazing?!

I'm sorry for the silence yesterday, and earlier today. I'm a little overwhelmed (in a very good way). This has been a wild week. But before I go, I wanted to point out a couple more things...

In case you haven't seen it, my publisher has come up with this fantastic widget, and I absolutely love it!

It's narrow enough to fit in my skinny little sidebars, and it has links to an excerpt of Rogue, a place to buy the book, and to the code for the widget itself. So if you were thinking about entering the "spread the word" contest but were intimidated by the thought, let me say that posting this widget in your blog, MySpace, LJ, or any other personal online haunt (no posting on other authors' private loops please!) will count as an entry.

Also, there's a new interview up at the Midnight Moon Cafe, and they're giving away a copy of Rogue. I'm answering questions in the comment there as well, so if you have any, hop on over!

I'm not surprised at all. ROGUE deserves to be on the NYT list.

Wonderful news, Rachel. Worth going to RT for in person celebrations. Sorry I won't be there--make someone toast you on my behalf, ok? ;)

I'm so excited for you!!!! I was wondering when one of your books would show up on that list, I know you've always deserved it. Congratulations, I know how important that is! Those roses are so pretty. My friends give me roses on special days; I dry them all and keep them somewhere safe. Save those roses!!!!!! ;-)

OMG!! I didn't know that there was a book 2! I MUST HAVE IT!!! I know that this isn't the most appropriot series for a child my age (I'm 11), but books like these just suck me in! Now that there is a second book, I must read it. I am one of those people who always has their face stuck in a book. Thank you for releasing this new book! And congrats!
