Star light, star bright...

Yesterday, I turned in page proofs for "Fearless," my short story in the upcoming Kiss Me Deadly anthology. As usual, there are things I wish I could change/tighten, but time's up for that one, and I believe the book comes out in August. If you read the Soul Screamers series (especially after you've read My Soul To Keep) you might be wondering what's next for Kaylee. The answer to that is: Sabine. This new character turns Kaylee's world on end in My Soul To Steal, and the "Fearless" story is your chance to see Sabine through her own eyes, five months before we get a good long look at her through Kaylee's.

Also yesterday, I cut a scene and redistributed the necessary information to another scene in My Soul To Steal. And let me tell you, that is hard work.

The problem is this: once I've written a rough draft, I tend to remember things the way they originally happened, so when I start messing around in subsequent drafts, rearranging things, tightening, clarifying, etc... I sometimes get confused about what's going on. I often can't remember whether a character has already said an important line in this current draft, or whether I'm remembering that line from the last time I read the manuscript. And that little literary wormhole is very disorienting.

Also, I really wish I could take back one little, bitty line from My Soul To Save. Just one line. Maybe if I tell you all which line I want to retract, you can all get out your white-out and strike through it for me. In every single copy in print. Simultaneously.

I could count down from ten. We could do it together. It'll be a bonding exercise.

Who's in? ;-)

I'm very curious about which line you're talking about now. It must be a pretty important one to have such an impact!

Hi Rachel!

I'm just getting ready to start My Soul To Save, and now I'm curious, what line would you like to retract? LOL I'll be reading and wondering. I'm sure it will be great though, I loved My Soul To Take! Waiting for My Soul To Keep and now looking forward to My Soul To Steal.

Dottie :)

I would be in, I could easily white out a line. Now I think I might have to go back and re-read My Soul to Save to try and figure out what line you are talking about. I am very interested...

tell us! tell us! i would happily white out a line for you!

Sounds like a plan to me! *gets out the whiteout* Oh, I need the book first. My bad. *goes to get it* Okay. Now, I'm set.
:-)

Rachel,
That's very interesting. I would love to know which line you're referring to and exactly why you want it removed, why you think you put it there the first time and would you just delete it all together or replace it with something else?

Very interesting, indeed. You should totally get that off your chest sometime. :)

Sure, count me in! Simply because I really wanna know what line! lol

Let's do it! Mass white out works! Must make things easier for you!

I'm in! I'm re-reading My Soul to Save right now to be ready for MSTK.

What line? WHAT LINE?! lol. If you tell me, I'll sneak into every bookstore in Houston and white it out. :D

I recently discovered this series via the free novella from Kindle. Immediately I had to buy the first two books (and I've already read all of them twice in the past three days!) I love the story and the Netherworld concept (who knows if it really does exist??) Even at 30 something I found the story a great read.

I can't wait for the next book to see what happens with Kaylee and Nash. Are Kaylee's doubts about why Nash's with her (wanting what he can't have) true? (Please say they aren't!) I am excited to see their relationship deepen. I would also love to see Tod get together with Emma :) They would play nicely off each other!

Great series and I hope it continues for quite awhile.
