The scoop on the Tod novella...

I just turned in revisions on the Tod novella, and I have to admit, I'm nervous about the reactions, from both my editor and readers. Because, as I've said before, people love Tod. Which is awesome. I love Tod. But with that much love going around, expectations for his story are pretty high, which means there's a huge chance the story won't meet them.

I appreciate all the confidence in me that Tod fans seem to have (really, I do!), but I won't breathe easy on this one until it's out and readers are (hopefully) able to legitimately enjoy the story.

About the story (and keep in mind that since it's still in revisions, any/all of this could change):

The novella features Tod and Nash when they were younger, and Tod was still alive. Before Nash started at Kaylee's school. The story shows a couple of defining moments for the Hudsons as a family and illustrates how Nash and Tod became the people they are in the novels. Because they start off pretty different from how you're used to seeing them.

It's told in first person, from Tod's POV and includes five characters (four of whom you've already met in the series) and one cameo appearance.

In the series timeline, most of this story takes place about a week after "Fearless" (the Sabine story in the Kiss Me Deadly anthology) and a year before Kaylee was hospitalized in "My Soul To Lose."

So, chronologically, the order of the Soul Screamers stories is:

"Fearless" (Kiss Me Deadly antho)
"Reaper" (e-novella, Dec 1, 2010, tentatively)
"My Soul To Lose" (e-novella)
My Soul to Take (book 1)
My Soul To Save (book 2)
My Soul to Keep (book 3)
My Soul To Steal (book 4
If I Die (book 5)

Ya know, just in case you were wondering... ;)

Awesome. I can't wait to read it. I always feel bad for Tod with what, him being dead and all. But I love Kaylee and Nash together so much I am more worried about Sabine right now lol

I can understand your apprehension but you have so much to back you up as a great writer that I really don't see a bad reaction coming. You're right we all love Tod and you created him therefore I see success :).

Sabine was one of the girls in the Immortal anthology story, right? (Just to make I haven't confused characters.)

Nope, Sabine is the mara from "Fearless." Andy and Malory were the siren and leanan sidhe from "Binge."
