Why I may be the crazy cat lady.

Unfortunately, I still don't have the official all-clear to shout my new series titles (one for the series as a whole, the other for the 1st novel) from the rooftop yet. My emails obviously don't sound quite desperate enough. Maybe it's all those exclamation points (in honor of my new French cover!!!).

But here's what I can tell you so far: this book is driving me nuts. I mean, crazy, in the sense that people now pause on my sidewalk to point and whisper, "That's where the crazy cat lady lives." And they're not far off. I have cats. See?

Why is this novel driving me crazy? Because I'm writing it from two different points of view. (FYI, I'm pretty sure that's abbreviated as PsOV, not POVs. Right? Or is that further proof of my craziness?) I've never tried a multiple POV book before, and my conclusion after having written almost 1/3 of one now? Multiple points of view (PsOV) just means there's more than one voice in your head. Thus, the crazy.

I'm far from sure this multiple point of view thing will actually work out. My editor asked me to try it, and I said I would. So I did, and it turns out I suck at it. So I called her and said, "Hey, it turns out I suck at multiple point of view, so I'm taking the second point of view out, 'kay? Oh, also, this book isn't turning out much like the book I proposed. How much trouble am I in?"

I was seriously stressed about both of those issues, but she took it all in stride.

Then I decided that I needed that second point of view, to be able to properly tell both sides of the story. So I gave it another shot. And it turns out that I'm not as bad at multiple points of view (PsOV) as I thought I was. But who knows. I might spend the entire revision process changing it all back to a single POV (PsOV).

So, there you go: everything you ever wanted to not-quite-know about my new series. ;)

Here's where the novel stands, after writing 3,205 words yesterday:

And here's where my November writing goal stands:

My critique partner (and partner in wordcount crime) Rinda Elliott had an interesting day yesterday. Click the button below to read about her progress (and how she nearly burned down her house.)

At least there are perks to being the crazy cat lady: people won't interrupt your writing time! :P Good luck with the PsOV, hehe.

Didn't writing the Shifter books already make you the crazy cat lady? j/k

I've felt like that the last few weeks. I'm completing my masters thesis, and the rough draft is due Monday. I've been pretty anti-social over the last week. And I haven't left the house in 2 days. OF course there is a big fat cat lounging my my desk. There you go, I'm also the crazy cat lady!

HAHA I never thought multiple POVs was cause for crazy- which just means I am crazier than you ;) Because I never realized it was a bad thing. I just finished writing my first multiple POVs book last month, you should maybe use 'method acting for writers' which comes easily to me as I was an actor but just makes me sound crazier when I try to explain it to my friends. It really exsists though, you can google it ;)

BTW Fark.com check it out ;)

I say POVs, and a lot of other people do, so it's ok I guess. Everyone understands you when you say POVs.

You are too funny. I also think the Shifter series made you the cat lady.
I love the photos of your cats that you share. They remind me of my boy - he lived with me for 21 yrs. He was a black long hair with those glowing eyes. I really miss him.

Two things, first, I felt your stress just reading that post. You have every right to be feeling like you are going a bit nuts right now! And second, those are some good lookin cats! So pretty. And it looks like they make nice, quiet writing partners. :) Good Luck!!!!!

LOL! I never thought of having multiple POVs meaning you have multiple voices in your head--but that makes sense! Awww, good luck--I'm sure you can pull it off and I can't wait to hear about the new series!

I know how you feel Rachel!

Still just an aspiring writer here, but I have several ideas floating around in my head, so I have a ton of characters all fighting for my attention and I keep telling them to leave me be while I work on book 1. Just let those characters scream at me.

They don't listen.

What do you do when your characters, your creations! won't listen to you? ;)

Love the picture! I know if I had a cat tower like that our cats would refuse to use it! They'd rather lounge on the back of the couch or in random cardboard boxes. :)

Oh, and I always say POVs. :)
